Coming Out
Letting people know you are gay is never easy. Here are some web sites that can help...
- How to Talk with Kids about Sexual Orientation and Prejudice
- "What Does Gay Mean?" is a new anti-bullying booklet and program from the The National Mental Health Association. It is designed to improve understanding and respect for GLBT youth. Included in the site are suggestions on how to talk with pre-school children, school age children and teenagers. For every gay, lesbian and bisexual youth who reported being harassed, four straight students said they were harassed because they were perceived as being gay or lesbian. Help stop the cycle.
- Family Acceptance
- "Mom ... Dad ... I'm Gay." Written by the parents of a gay son for other parents, it deals with the issues and emotions that every parent faces when their child "comes out". Helpful for parents, L/G/B/T's about to tell their parents, and others who support parents during this trying time.
- Youth Resource
- YouthResource, a Web site created by and for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (GLBTQ) young people 13 to 24 years old, covers a wide range of issues and offers support, community, resources, and peer-to-peer education. Everything from STD's to coming out stories to male on male sexual violence, web rings and more.
